But as far as being more usable, about the only thing that you can't do with a horizontal that you can do with most verticals is run a tapping head.

The deal is that the overarm support to the milling arbor was different (M18) . The newer MFC dispenced with the cutter guard and used M160 arbor support.

WEBJan 5, 2022 · An OEM arbor may have had them removed for some reason. As with lathes, engaging the back gears to lock the shaft is a bad idea. Broken teeth is a difficult repair on the MFC. The nut should be loose enough to tighten by hand. The last little jerk with a wrench is just to make sure it stays where it was set.
